Salwan Cartwright-Shamoon BMus (Hons)

 


In 2016 Salwan graduated from Queen’s University, Belfast, with a First Class Honours degree in music. During his time at Queen’s, Salwan studied voice with David Robertson, Debra Stuart and Dr Angela Feeney, and played the title role of Aeneas in the university’s production of Dido and Aeneas. At the end of his first year, he was awarded the Hamilton Harty Scholarship which enabled him to participate in the first World Choral Festival in Dublin and perform at the National Concert Hall.
 

Salwan has been a chorus member for two of NI Opera’s productions, including TheFlying Dutchman (2 performances), and L’elisir D’amore(Northern Irish Tour: 6 performances). He has been on two performing choir tours with St George’s Parish Choir – in Switzerland (as a boy treble), and at a week-long residency in Salisbury
Cathedral, England – and has previously been awarded a choral scholarship to sing with the choir. Salwan has performed and won significant prizes in Northern Ireland music festivals. In 2014/15, he won major prizes at the Holywood, Mossgrove, Ballymena, Portadown, Carrickfergus, and Ballyclare music festivals.

 

Over the years, Salwan has participated in vocal masterclass with internationally- acclaimed vocal coaches, including Mary King, Paul Farrington and Sarah Pring. In 2013, he attended and participated in the Complete 5 Day Course in the Estill [Vocal] Model at the Royal Academy of Music in London, which was run by vocal specialists Paul Farrington, Anne-Marie Speed and Kiereen Lock.
 

Salwan is currently studying voice with Eamonn Mulhall, a member of the faculty at Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London. In recent years, he has had private consultations for voice and composition with members of the faculty at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. 

 

Also an accomplished Pianist, he works professionally performing on Piano around Belfast and further afield. He teaches both Singing and Piano for the School and within his private teaching.

 

Salwan is a most welcome to the Stormont School of Singing Creative Team - joining us in August 2017. An inspiring and encouraging e looks forward to working with our Singers and Pianists.
