Debbie Matier BMus (Hons) PGCE PGDipMtpp

Having participated in every available musical activity throughout primary and secondary school, Debbie went on to read music at the University of Durham.  Whilst enjoying singing in the university choir, playing violin in the college orchestra and saxophone in various fun ensembles, piano remained her first love and passion.  She graduated in 1996 with single honours in Music, achieved a performance diploma on piano in 1997 and graduated in 1998 with distinction in Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) for post primary music.

Debbie taught for eight years in the school environment, full time in St. MacNissi’s College followed by part time in Slemish Integrated College as she developed her private piano teaching practice.  She left the classroom in 2006 to concentrate on private piano teaching, continuing her professional development with a postgraduate diploma in Music Teaching in Professional Practice (PGDIpMtpp).

Alongside teaching, Debbie has acquired much experience as an accompanist for soloists of all levels, ranging from beginners right up to diploma. She has enjoyed many years as an official accompanist with local music festivals including Ballymena, Coleraine and Portstewart. She still considers it a joy to support music-making at such a high level.

The School is delighted to have welcomed Debbie to the Teaching Team as a dedicated Piano Teacher as of September 2015.
